and they jump the General Lee over the Bill of Rights...

SubPop is home to some great musicians - we know this. But what you may not know is that they house a range of very talented comics as well. Take favorite sitcom/movie sidekick Patton Oswalt:

Patton Oswalt - Dukes of Hazzard

Also, the very sad and immensely talented Eugene Mirman, and David Cross:
David Cross - Certain Leaders In Government Look or Act Like Certain Pop Culture References

David Cross - My Wife's Crazy!

Also, Flight of the Conchords, which, if you've paid any attention to this, is a well-loved favorite of the Jessay. You can grab some of their tracks from the FOTC fan site. Enjoy the funny!

you get stuck in traffic with your car and fall asleep...

Continuing with the theme from the last post, I'd like to put forth Chad VanGaalen as a creator of some lovely summer music. At least my sort - this is the fuzzed-out, humid version of summer, where everything is moving fast and slow at the same time. This type of summer is full of beach trips, and earning and spending money with equal speed, and driving just for the sake of driving - milking the summer for all it's worth and wrestling with it to last just a little longer.

today I stop guessing and give you my heart...

It's getting hot these days. On the super-humid Delaware summer days, it's pretty much enough to breathe. Otherwise, most people try to take it easy. When I think of summer, I think of dense, heavy sounds and slow, whispery acoustic tunes, depending on whether it's early in the day or late. Jennifer O'Connor gives us all the pieces of summer - the quiet, cooling evenings and weighty days. I can just put her songs on and wrap the summer around me anytime.

Because Matador doesn't support deep-linking, you'll have to visit here to download two of her songs.

come to me...I'm going to set you free...

Over at Fat Possum records, there are quite a few characters. The Black Keys, with their blues-rock-stomp, is by far one of my favorites. I enjoy their older stuff most, specifically Rubber Factory, but it's all bluesy and soulful and surprisingly dense for a two-man band. The drums hit hard, the guitars are fuzzed, and Dan Auerbach's voice is culled from the entire blues feeling, weary and real and more alive than most.

My life is full of gentle...

Newark, Delaware isn't a newsmaking place. it's a nice college town, full of historic buildings, coffee shops, and ancient trees lining the University of Delaware green. You wouldn't think something so extraordinary as this could spring from such an ordinary place. You should go to Miss Katie Dill's myspace and grab some of her lovely, ukelele-laden summer songs. I'm building some summer mixes as we speak.
